Making the Connection

Making the Connection brought together work by artists exploring the African American experience from their individual perspectives. Artist and teacher John Baker organized a larger version of this exhibition and related programs, with assistance from Burchfield Penney staff, to celebrate African American History Month during February 1999. The Burchfield Penney also collaborated on this exhibition with the Western New York Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, where it was presented. Burchfield Penney staff organized the Joy Gallery’s exhibition that featured works by Daisy Anderson, George K. Arthur, David Gordon, LeRoi Johnson, Curtis L. Parker, Mark Pearce, Betty Pitts-Foster, Milton Rogovin and Erica Scherer. The presentation was made possible through support from the Joy Family Foundation and New Mt. Ararat Temple of Prayer.
