Explore the story behind the landscape at the former Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane, now known as the Richardson Olmsted Complex. From its foundation in 1872, the Asylum transformed the treatment of people with mental illness by focusing on gardens, farming, and fresh air. Today, the Complex is one of the largest historic preservation projects in the nation and its landscape is being renewed for a new generation of visitors.
* Park in the new parking lot on the north side of the site (by Buff State). It’s free and can be accessed from either Richmond or Elmwood.
Supplies:
Bring watercolor supplies: paint, water container, paper towels, paper, brushes
Feel free to bring a stool, chair and small portable table
