Policy on authentication
The Burchfield Penney Art Center offers research as a service because of our unique art and archival collections of work by Charles E. Burchfield and the artists of Buffalo and our region. The Center does not provide authentications of artworks.
This research is based on information provided to the Burchfield Penney Art Center and reflects research conducted in the museum’s resources. The Center maintains files on 3500 artists with a focus collection on Charles E. Burchfield. The archival collections related to Charles E. Burchfield contain over 25,000 drawings, the artist's painting index, 10,000 hand-written journal pages, personal and professional , correspondence, a record of publications about the artist, dealers' records, and much more. The Burchfield Penney Art Center also manages copyright for the works of Charles E. Burchfield.

Policy on appraisals
As with all museums, the Burchfield Penney Art Center cannot provide appraisals of artwork. In keeping with this practice, we also do not make general referrals to appraisers. The following organizations may be able to provide assistance.
